A Treadle hammer, as the name implies is a simple "HPPH" Humen Powered Power Hammer - the operation is easy -> The operator pushes down the foot treadle which will result in a strong blow by the hammer head, when the treadle is being released, the hammerhead will return to it's original top position.
A treadle hammer can be built for little money, is easy to operate and doesn't require any electrical powersource. You can do smaller billets of patternwelded steels and use it for your general forging work.
It will not replace a hydraulic 40-ton press or a good sized power hammer, but it will get you results your hand hammer wouldn't.
